Great-Grandma and Great-Grandson In Progress

Grisaille underpainting of Great-Grandma and Great-Grandson based on the film photograph by the same name (shown below). By this Thursday, this black and white painting will have color glazed on it. So, before I start on the color glazing, I'd love to have suggestions on what I can do with this painting. Thanks!

  1. Wow!!!! I really love how the gma really does look old. you did an incredible job doing her wrinkles. It took me a second at first to realize that it wasn't the real photo. Great job :D

  2. Thanks! I really do feel that I definitely achieved realism with grandma. Aaron, on the other hand, looks off to me. It's partly because, as his mom, I know his face so well. But I just cannot place whatever it is that's not quite right. What do you think?

  3. In the original pic his face is not only a little smaller but angled down and not looking up as much as you have drawn. His forehead throws me off a little and his chin is bigger in your drawing than in the pic.
